If I could say one thing to Halloween candy, it would be this.

Halloween is creeping up on us, which means following a clean-eating regimen can be really damn hard. For some, staying away from Halloween candy is easy, but not everyone can resist the temptation.

But temptation doesn’t have to be torture. You’d be surprised at how many healthier Halloween candy alternatives are out there that taste just like the ones you’re used to – if not better!

This year, clean up your Halloween basket with these healthier candies. You’ll end up feeling much less guilty (and much happier!) knowing you’re consuming real food, not junk.

Instead of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, try Justin’s Peanut Butter Cups!

reesesjustins

Reese’s Ingredients: Milk chocolate, peanuts, sugar, dextrose, salt, TBHQ, citric acid.

Justin’s Ingredients: Organic Chocolate (Milk or Dark), Organic Peanuts, Organic Powdered Evaporated Cane Sugar, Organic Peanut Flour, Organic Palm Fruit Oil**, Organic Cocoa Butter, Organic Vanilla Flavor, Sea Salt, Organic Soy Lecithin.

At first glance, there’s not much of a difference in these two. Considering Hershey’s recently removed the high fructose corn syrup from their ingredients list, Reese’s cups don’t appear to be a bad option for a candy. But you can’t deny that Justin’s top-notch organic ingredients shine like a diamond in comparison. Plus, Justin’s cups contain 23% less sugar than Reese’s. That’s a pretty significant amount!

Instead of Tootsie Rolls, try TruJoy Choco Chews!

totosie

Tootsie Roll Ingredients: Sugar, Corn Syrup, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Condensed Skim Milk, Cocoa, Whey, Soy Lecithin, Artificial And Natural Flavors.

Trujoy Choco Chews Ingredients: Organic Evaporated Dried Cane Syrup, Organic Tapioca Syrup, Organic Palm Oil, Organic Cocoa Powder, Organic Vanilla Flavor, Organic Rice Extract, Organic Chocolate Liquor.

Yuck, yuck, and yuck. Besides the obvious concerns with sugar… Tootsie Roll ingredients give me something to be scared about this halloween with it’s corn syrup, soybean oil, and artificial flavorings. Be smart and opt for the organic option – there’s 21% less sugar & 42% less carbs. Much better!

Instead of Dum Dums, try YumEarth Lollipops!

dumdum

Dum Dums Ingredients: Sugar, Corn Syrup, Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Salt, Artificial Flavor, Color Added (Includes Red 40, Yellow 6, Yellow 5, Blue 1).

YumEarth Pops Ingredients: Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Non-Gmo Citric Acid (from Beet Sugar-Not Corn), Natural Flavors, Organic Black Carrots, Organic Black Currant, Organic Apple, Organic Carrot, Organic Pumpkin, Ascorbic Acid.

OK, so we know that with consuming any candy, organic or not, there’s going to be sugar. Choosing a healthier alternative of candy means limiting exposure to other harmful additives and selecting better sweeteners than refined sugar. While both of these lollipops consist of mostly sugar, you’ll sleep better knowing the healthy alternative’s coloring is plant-based from real fruits and vegetables.

Instead of Snickers, try Ocho Caramel Peanut Bar!

snickers

Snickers Ingredients: Milk Chocolate, Peanuts, Corn Syrup, Sugar, Palm Oil, Skim Milk, Lactose, Partially Hydrogennated Soybean Oil, Salt, Egg Whites, Artificial Flavor.

Ocho Ingredients: Organic Milk Chocolate, Organic Tapioca, Organic Cane Juice, Organic Tapioca Starch, Organic Peanuts, Organic Sweetened Condensed Milk, Organic Peanut Butter, Organic Milk Butter, Salt, Organic Egg Whites.

I’ll be honest here, Snickers is my favorite candy. I’ve found tons of Pinterest recipes for DIY Snickers bars, but I have to say this alternative looks pretty promising.

Instead of Hershey’s Kisses, try Endangered Species Dark Chocolate Bug Bites!

herhseys

Hershey’s Kisses Ingredients: Milk Chocolate (Sugar, Milk Chocolate, Cocoa Butter, Soy Lecithin, Lactose, Milk Fat, PGPR, Emulsifiers and Vanillin, Artificial Flavor).

Endangered Species Dark Chocolate Bug Bites Ingredients: Dark Chocolate (Chocolate Liquor, Cane Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Powder, Soy Lecithin, Vanilla).

The ingredients here are pretty much the same. It should be noted that Endangered Species also makes a Milk Chocolate Bug Bites option, which ingredients are notably the same as Hershey’s Kisses. It wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if you consumed these childhood-favorites – just maybe opt for the dark chocolate Kisses instead!

Instead of Werther’s Caramel Candies, try Cocomels Coconut Milk Caramels!

caramel

Werther’s Caramel Candies Ingredients: Glucose Syrup (from Wheat or Corn), Sugar, Condensed Skim Milk, Palm Oil, Sorbitol Syrup Humectant, Cream, Condensed Whey, Butter, Whey Product, Salt, Cane Sugar Syrup, Soy Lecithin Emulsifier, Artificial Flavor.

Cocomels Coconut Milk Caramels Ingredients: Organic Coconut Milk, Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Cane Syrup, Sea Salt, Xantham Gum.

Yikes – all that for a little caramel? Considering I can’t even pronounce half of the Werther’s ingredients, nor do I know what they are… it’s best to stay away. Opt for a dairy/gluten-free option from Cocomels instead. They even have multiple flavors!

Happy Halloween, everyone! Indulge smartly and feel great! What are your favorite Halloween candy alternatives?
